Axiology and musicology: on the problem of the reassessment of values
Section 1. Modern Revisions of Musical and Historical Heritage
Abstract
Statement of the problem. The creative practice of the 20th century actualized the axiological approach to the artefacts of musical culture. Under such conditions, the theoretical understanding of the problem of the reassessment of values, which determines the peculiarities of the composer’s thinking of that time, acquires a special importance. Objectives, methods, and novelty of the research. Solving problems regarding the specifics of the relationship between axiology and of creative thinking, since its development is associated with the process of rethinking the accumulated experience, and allows us to understand the dialectics of the past, present and future in the creative consciousness and composer’s practice.musicology, revealing the relationship between the historical development of music and the process of the reassessment of values is based on the principle of historicism, a comprehensive approach, and determines the purpose and novelty of the article.
Research results. The multidirectional trends in the music of the last century contributed to the discovery of the dia-synchronic nature of artistic thinking. This means the presence in a single section of musical culture of various genre and style models that have formed during its historical path. In the process of the reassessment of values, two sides are distinguished. One of them is projected onto the system of functioning of art in a specific historical society. The other is determined by the functioning of art, in particular the musical one, in the context of its own history. The reassessment of values is inherent in certain stages of development of music as a hierarchical system. If we look at them from the standpoint of the stage-based approach, we will reveal the abruptness of the change of phases and the typical nature of the reassessment of values in the course of destabilization. The stage of the destabilization / reassessment of values is accompanied by the process of symbolization. Symbolization comes “from within” art, as a result, “hidden places” of artistic experience arise, which ultimately constitute the genetic code of culture in a fixed form. It manifests in various forms, which have different relationships with the composition itself. A definition of the concept of “symbol” has been given. The consideration of L. Berio’s Symphony in the proposed aspect indicates the signs of mythological thinking and connections with the genre tradition.
Conclusion. The directions of considering the problem of the reassessment of values are quite diverse: social consciousness; critical judgment; the existence of a musical genre, a specific composition in the context of historically changing eras, etc. For musicology, one of the urgent tasks is to understand the composer’s creativity in its historical diversity. The reassessment of values is a generic property of creative thinking, since its development is associated with the process of rethinking the accumulated experience, and allows us to understand the dialectics of the past, present and future in the creative consciousness and composer’s practice.
